Taiwan - Travel the World
AAG wants to not only promote cultural exchange through our programs, but also provide a breather to travel the world virtually. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to learn more about a featured country with whom we are establishing and creating stronger business, political, and human ties. This month we are featuring Taiwan.
Taiwan is officially known as the Republic of China and their history goes as far back as tens of thousands of years. It is an island 100 miles off the Asian mainland in the Pacific Ocean. It is a country that has been populated by many people over the years such as, indigenous tribes, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Han Chinese which gives the country a kaleidoscope of culture, customs and traditions. Taiwan lies on the Tropic of Cancer and its climate is marine tropical. Its geography is characterized by rugged mountain terrains, flat rolling plains and of course surrounded by ocean. Taiwan, is known for beautiful national parks, iconic nature and scenic areas such as standing in the middle of Alishan National Scenic Area were you can on a clear day see 4 townships or visiting the Yangming Mountain which hosts volcanic sights, hot springs, peaceful valleys and native vegetation.
Visiting Taipei 101 is also a must. It’s known as the Taipei Financial Center which is over 100 stories and stands a beacon for all to see for miles in the surrounding areas. After its completition in 2004 the building had been the tallest building in the world until the building in Dubai was completed in 2010, named Burj Khalifa.
Taiwan food culture is enveloped around, fish, rice and teas. Teahouses can be found in almost every city and every home has a tea cart. Learn more about tea’s history in Taiwan
