Many people all around the world celebrate Christmas, an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The celebratory customs associated in various countries have a mix of religious and secular origins. The season is observed in different ways, varying by country and region. Common elements include lighting of a Christmas tree, hanging of wreaths, singing carols, or displaying Nativity scenes depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.
In Brazil, celebrations resemble in many ways the traditions of Europe and North American, with exchanging of gifts, sending Christmas cards, and decorating houses and buildings with lights. Despite the warm tropical summer weather, some decorations include the theme of winter and snow. In Poland, Christmas Eve begins with a day of fasting and then a night of feasting. The traditional Polish Christmas meal is known as Wigilia or vigil. We hope that during this season you and your staff having an opportunity to share family traditions and customs about the holiday season you cherish. In addition, please take an opportunity to ask questions and learn about how your international participants celebrate in their home countries.
